1 min read

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — The Montgomery County Police Department is warning residents of a “bitcoin blackmail scam” occurring in the county.

The Department has received reports of scammers sending an email or mailing a letter to county residents. The letters demand a payment in bitcoins, or else a “secret” will be revealed to that resident’s wife, police said.

If you think you have been a victim of this scam, please call MCP’s non-emergency number at 301-279-8000 to report the incident.
