Shark Tank bitcoin scam warnings continue as some fans say they were duped by the fake ads

3 min read

Network Ten is continuing to warn Shark Tank viewers about fake online advertisements claiming the sharks have endorsed cryptocurrency trading platforms, but some viewers claim they have already been caught out by the ads.

Last month the network confirmed to SmartCompany it was aware of the continued appearance of the ads across a broad range of websites, saying they were “completely false and misleading”. In response, Ten has now been running warnings across its social media platforms in the lead-up to Shark Tank episodes being aired on Tuesday nights.

This week, viewers were reminded to report the fake ads to Google, Yahoo and Facebook when they appear.

Viewers shared the warnings with fellow Shark Tank fans across social media, but some said they had already been caught out by the ads.

“Too late, it looked genuine, I lost too!” one viewer said on Facebook.

It’s not clear exactly how these viewers lost out after reading the fake articles, but the links from the ads include fake quotes from the Shark Tank investors endorsing cryptocurrency investments and platform Bitcoin Trader.

However, the vast majority of responses to the warnings saw viewers say they knew the links seem “too good to be true”.

“The English and grammar mistakes are what gave it away,” one fan said on Facebook.

Meanwhile, Shark Tank investor Naomi Simson has urged anyone who sees the scam ads to report them.

“Can you scammers please leave us alone — seriously get a life and find a proper job!” she wrote on Monday.
