Former Wall Street Analyst, Mary Meeker Suggests Cryptocurrency Growth is “Exploding” in Recode Report

The most anticipated, Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends Report for this year has been published on May 30th, 2018. The report clearly states that there is a growing interest for cryptocurrencies, where Meeker suggests it to be “exploding” ever since January of 2017.

The supposed explosion has been expanded to the point where many universities have been introducing crypto – mainly Bitcoin (BTC) – courses.

Based on the annual report, “Bitcoin & Cryptocurrency Technologies” made it to the top courses offered at Princeton University in 2017. The report that was put together by Kleiner Perkins Partners and Hillhouse Capital suggests that it houses several ideas that can be useful in visualizing trends.

In particular, a statement was made saying that it, “uses data to tell stories of business-related trends… we hope others take the ideas, build on them and make them better.”

For visual representation, Meeker uses a line graph that shows the growth of Coinbase users from January to November 2017.

While the growth shows an upward trend, many have labeled this approach as outdated, given the fact that Bitcoin’s historical growth occurred in December, which would show an appropriate representation of the number of users who have joined onboard the crypto train.

Namely, VP Product of QED, a blockchain firm, Maya Zehavi pointed it out via Twitter saying that Coinbase user data does not include December. Specifically, she stated that, “the only crypto slide to make Mary Meeker’s Internet trend report details Coinbase’s growth, and even that’s outdated by now (post peak).”

Regardless of the flawed visual, crypto is clearly staying, as many educational tools are coming about. While consumers are introduced to several online courses as a mean to feed one’s curiosity, more and more degree-earning courses on crypto are slowly coming to form, with many already available.
