That is the tenth yr in a row I’ve ended the yr with a column that includes my favourite wildlife photographs.

This yr I made a decision to do issues a bit in a different way than previously. As an alternative of selecting my favourite photographs from the yr, I made a decision to pick out 4 of my favourite classes, and choose one picture from every. The classes are white-tailed deer, songbirds, waterfowl and recreation birds — particularly ruffed grouse.

Not one of the topics are unique wildlife, nor had been any of the photographs taken in faraway places. Actually, all the pictures had been shot inside a number of miles of Brainerd.

The photographs on this web page painting my decisions for 2021. I hope these images instill in you a brand new appreciation for the wild critters that inhabit our fields, forests and even our backyards.

This male ruffed grouse is strutting from his drumming log. What a sight to see as he fanned his tail, fluffed his neck ruffs, and lowered his wings. Photo / Bill Marchel
